Jason Boog on Galleycat at MediaBistro.com, passes on an unusual tip.
Riven with nostalgia for the old way of writing your book? A computer wizard by the name of John Watson has a solution for you. He has established a free internet typewriter site that will turn your web browser into a distraction-free black screen for writing your manuscript, complete with electric or manual typewriter sounds.
Typing in pale green on a black screen isn't a prospect that appeals to me, but others might find it helpful. The big plus is that your work is automatically saved, so power outages or computer glitches don't wipe out hours of creativity.
If you enjoy that kind of fiddling, you can adjust the sounds until they are the way your want them. Simply visit the preferences section to change the look, feel and sound of your online typewriter.
Have fun.

Definitely looking this one up over the weekend :)
Would you call a person who hankers for the old way of doing things a Luddite?
Tell me how your tinkering goes. I had a quick look, but found it rather challenging.
Oh. When I think about it I can't give it a go this weekend as we're going to Oamaru for the Victorian/Steampunk festival, but I'll give it a go next week. Although if it's challenging, it's not for Luddites :)
I hope you enjoy the festival, Mark! We've been to it the last two years, but this year it didn't work out. They make a fine job of it all.
I have a new raygun for next year's. :)
