Because I have sailed with so many Filipino shipmates, I am particularly interested in their stories.

Filipinos can be found in all the seas and every ocean, because they are by far the largest group of seafarers in the world. Most of the hands on container ships and tankers are Filipino. They are on fishing trawlers, floating oil rigs, cruise ships, and luxury mega-yachts – adding up to perhaps half a million Filipino sailors at sea at any time.
But, while I have come across hard-working cabin and table stewards from Kiribati and Vanuatu, I was unaware of their stories until I read this article today.
