Passing on the article about researching the four-funnel ship on a Canadian banknote inspired a lot of interest and off-blog comment. A hunt about the internet found many examples, both old and new...
I even found a banknote that is worth what it says it is worth -- it is engraved with precious metal.
I was also shown a nicely produced book, The Art of Money: the History and Design of Paper Currency from Around the World, by David Stanich (SF: Chroncile, 2000), which has a whole chapter on ships on paper currency.
With thanks to Brian Easton
