Bloomsbury has appointed Derek Stordahl to the newly created role of head of sales, Americas.
The Bookseller reports that Stordahl will be joining the company on 6th August and will be based in the New York offices, where he will become part of the senior management team.
He will be responsible for all sales across Bloomsbury's divisions in the US, Canada and Latin America. He will also take responsibility for Academic marketing worldwide.
It is easy to tell where his focus will be. Bloomsbury's global e-book sales were up 70% year on year between 1st March and 31st May 2012, the publisher has reported in its interim management statement. Print sales fell by 2% for the same period.
At 30th June, the group had a balance sheet with net cash of £10m, according to the statement.
Chief executive Nigel Newton said the company is "well placed to take advantage of [the] seismic shift in the book publishing industry", as e-book sales "continue to grow at a rapid rate".
Stordahl has previously worked for McGraw-Hill, IDG Books, Harper San Francisco and North Point Press.
