Local interest group wins the day

High Court halts Gloucestershire library closures

Hail to the power of the ordinary man.  Benedict Page reports on Bookseller.com that library closures in Gloucestershire have been halted after lawyers acting for a local resident obtained a High Court injunction prohibiting them.

The Gloucestershire County Council plans to withdraw funding from 10 of its 38 libraries, and reduce operating hours of most.

But because of local outrage, the Council has been stopped in its tracks.
