It could be a horrific library fine
In the Dominion Post, Jono Galuszka reveals the name of the Wellington city library book that has been overdue the longest.
It is The Dunwich Horror and Others, the Best of HP Lovecraft by SF great H P Lovecraft.
The book was due back on February 12, 1988.
Theoretically, @ 80c a day, the anonymous borrower owes the library $6852.
Instead, the library would rather have the book returned, and to make this easy, there is a cut-off at 28 days, which means that the fine is just $22.40.
"We don't want to charge the Earth," said Wellington libraries manager Jane Hill. "What we're trying to do is get the books back."
