Reflections by award-winning maritime historian Joan Druett, author of many books about the sea
Admittedly in Hong Kong, but I've been in a near full restaurant when not a single table was talking amongst the table: everyone was on a device :)Mrs H got diabolical food poisoning.
And then there is the person who sets the device down on the table as he or she takes a seat, and if you lift an eyebrow, the phone-addict says, "Sorry, but I am expecting an important call." More important than a face-to-face conversation during what is supposed to be a social meal? Believe me, it doesn't just happen in Hong Kong. Food poisoning? You're joking!
